Biography

Eric David C. Tan is a senior partner of VAL Law. He is currently engaged as a Senior Consultant with Ernst & Young’s (EY – Toronto, Canada) Advisory Services. While at EY, he has since advised and executed several merger integration projects for clients in various industries such as banking and finance, agriculture, technology and utilities. His other projects in EY include IT vendor negotiation and managements, digital transformation, data quality validation and SOX process and controls documentation.

After placing fifth (5th) in the 2010 Philippine National Bar Examinations, Atty. Tan worked as Associate Director in the Transaction Tax Services of SyCip Gorres Velayo SGV & Co. (SGV). Thereafter, he became an associate of Puno & Puno Law Offices. Following his stint at Puno Law, he decided to pursue his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Atty. Tan is a seasoned corporate and tax lawyer and a certified public accountant with substantial experiences in corporate and tax engagements. Specifically, he has been heavily involved in technology, tax and legal due diligence, tax litigation & disputes, succession planning & strategy, corporate restructuring, and corporate and tax advisory. His experiences in tax and corporate law include being the lead associate for the negotiation, drafting and structuring of an EPC agreement for a $973M coal-fired power plant. Atty. Tan also managed the contract drafting for the financing of a $315M wind energy project. He also managed and advised the acquisition of a start-up solar power company by a multinational client. He likewise managed the tax due diligence for the corporate restructuring of a major Philippine hydroelectric project. He also advised a multinational client on the establishment of a contact center in the Philippines and he managed the majority of the real property tax disputes of the biggest geothermal company of the Philippines.
